CASE STORY: SHOBHA’S PATH TO TRANSFORMATION

Shobha (name changed), a resident of Gandhinagar, Guttahalli in Bangarpet Taluk, spent over 12 years as a sex worker. Living with HIV, she found it increasingly difficult to support her family and children. Determined to create a better future, she sought help through the Soukhya Samrudhi Samsthe and applied for the Dhanushree Scheme, along with a loan from the Women and Children Welfare Department.

Through the Dhanushree Scheme, Shobha received ₹30,000, which she used to purchase a cow. She began selling milk and now earns around ₹15,000 per month.

With this new income, Shobha has reduced her involvement in sex work and is embracing a healthier, more fulfilling life with her children. Her journey reflects resilience and the power of community support in helping her build a brighter future.

CASE STORY: KAMALA’S JOURNEY TO INDEPENDENCE

Kamala (name changed), a resident of KGF, turned to sex work five years ago to provide for her two children, as her husband—a heavy drinker—neglected his family, spending his income on alcohol. Despite her efforts as a laborer, her earnings were insufficient to meet her family’s needs, leaving her with few options.

When Kamala discovered Soukhya Samrudhi Samsthe, she registered with the organization and accessed the Chethana Scheme, through which she received financial support to purchase a sewing machine. Today, she works as a tailor, earning ₹11,000 per month, and has greatly reduced her involvement in sex work. Kamala is now supporting her children with pride and independence, creating a brighter future for them.
